We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Domain Architect to provide strategic architectural leadership across a major federal government agency's complex data environment.
This is an EL2-equivalent role for a senior architect who can define domain architecture, target states and transition roadmaps, then guide programs and delivery teams toward a coherent enterprise data direction. You will provide authoritative advice to executives and governance forums, resolve complex cross-domain issues and influence investment decisions across multiple systems and initiatives.

The opportunity
- Initial 12-month contract

- Expected start date: 19 October 2026
- Locations: Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide
- Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week in the office
- 37.5 hours per week
- Lead, EL2-equivalent engagement
- Develop, maintain and communicate domain architecture, target state and strategic roadmaps
- Provide architectural leadership across programs, projects and multidisciplinary teams
- Translate organisational strategy and complex business needs into clear architecture direction
- Establish data architecture principles, patterns, standards and guardrails
- Review solution designs and provide assurance over architectural decisions
- Identify cross-domain dependencies, risks, gaps and opportunities for reuse
- Analyse complex technology issues and recommend practical transition approaches
- Advise senior executives and governance forums on investment, sequencing, risk and technical trade-offs
- Collaborate with enterprise, solution and security architects, data engineering leaders and delivery teams
- Mentor architects and technical specialists while building broader architecture capability
What you will bring
You will need to demonstrate:
- At least eight years of experience designing and delivering complex enterprise data initiatives and solutions
- At least three years in an EL2-equivalent, principal architect or comparable senior industry role
- Proven ability to translate organisational strategy, business requirements and complex technology considerations into domain architecture and strategic direction
- Extensive experience applying architecture principles, patterns, standards and governance across multiple programs or systems
- Strong capability in analysing architectural dependencies, risks and trade-offs and presenting evidence-based recommendations
- Deep knowledge of contemporary enterprise technology environments and data management practices
- Strong experience across master data management, reference data management, data modelling and data security
- Executive-level stakeholder leadership, communication and influencing skills
- A track record of aligning architects, technical specialists and delivery teams across competing priorities
Highly regarded experience includes:
- Domain or enterprise architecture within Australian Government or another large, complex organisation
- Major cloud transformation delivery in an Australian federal or state government agency
- TOGAF or advanced AWS or Azure architecture certification
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in enterprise architecture, technology, information systems or a related discipline
