We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect with Data Domain background to provide strategic architectural leadership across a major federal government agency's complex data environment.
This is a senior, EL2-equivalent opportunity within a Federal Government Enterprise Architecture practice. The organisation is moving from a large monolithic environment towards best-of-breed platforms, creating important architecture decisions about authoritative sources of truth, reference data, information flows, interoperability and cross-system dependencies.
This is not primarily a Data Modeller, Data Engineer, governance specialist or single-platform Solution Architect position. We are looking for a broad Enterprise Architect who can bring genuine data-domain depth while working consultatively across executives, program leaders, architects and delivery teams.

The opportunity
- Initial 12-month contract
- One 12-month extension option
- Expected start date: 19 October 2026
- Locations: Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide
- Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week in the office
- 37.5 hours per week
- Lead, EL2-equivalent engagement
- Shape enterprise architecture across multiple systems, programs and technology investments
- Develop and communicate target-state architecture and practical transition roadmaps
- Guide the transition from a monolithic environment towards best-of-breed platforms
- Help determine authoritative sources of truth and how information should move across systems
- Resolve reference-data, interoperability and cross-system architecture issues
- Identify dependencies, risks, sequencing considerations and opportunities for reuse
- Engage early with project teams to shape direction before decisions reach formal governance
- Translate complex architecture issues into clear business advice for senior leaders and executives
- Influence program direction and architecture decisions without relying on formal authority
- Work strategically across several concurrent transformation initiatives while remaining connected to delivery teams
- Collaborate with enterprise, solution, security and data architects, engineers, business stakeholders and vendors
- Provide architecture assurance, guidance and mentoring across the organisation
What you will bring
You will need to demonstrate:
- At least eight years of experience designing and delivering complex enterprise data initiatives and solutions
- At least three years in a Principal Architect, Enterprise Architect, Domain Architect or comparable senior role
- Broad Enterprise Architecture capability across multiple systems, programs and investments
- Strong data-domain expertise, including sources of truth, reference data, MDM, RDM, information flows, data modelling and data security
- Experience developing target states, transition roadmaps, architecture principles, patterns, standards and guardrails
- A record of working across large, complex transformation programs
- Strong internal consulting skills, including the ability to diagnose ambiguity and shape direction early
- Evidence of influencing executives, peers and delivery teams without direct authority
- The ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to business and executive audiences
- Experience balancing strategic direction with practical delivery needs across concurrent workstreams
- A collaborative working style and comfort operating in a changing environment where structures and processes are still developing
Highly regarded experience includes:
- Existing Baseline or NV1 security clearance
- Experience in government, financial services, health or another large, regulated environment
- Formal Enterprise Architecture certification, such as TOGAF
- Advanced AWS or Azure architecture certification
- Major cloud or enterprise transformation experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in technology, information systems, architecture or a related discipline
- Government experience is helpful but not mandatory. Relevant experience from complex commercial environments will be considered where you can demonstrate strong Enterprise Architecture, data-domain and stakeholder-influence capability.
