**About the Role**

A major federal government agency is looking for a Midrange .NET and Delphi Software Engineer to join their team on a 12-month contract. This is a hands-on development role where you'll work across both legacy Delphi desktop applications and modern .NET solutions, helping to maintain, modernise, and integrate the agency's software platform.

You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications in both Delphi and .NET, migrating legacy code to modern architectures, and ensuring smooth interoperability between platforms. The role sits at APS6 level and involves technical leadership, code reviews, and collaboration with business analysts, testers, and other developers.

The first 6 weeks are full-time onsite, transitioning to a hybrid arrangement (minimum 3 days per week in the office).

**What You'll Be Doing**

- Developing, enhancing, and maintaining applications in Delphi and .NET (C#/VB.NET)
- Migrating and refactoring legacy Delphi code to modern .NET architectures
- Implementing ASP.NET MVC and Web API solutions for web-based components
- Working with relational databases including SQL Server, InterBase, and Firebird
- Optimising application performance, troubleshooting issues, and applying bug fixes
- Participating in code reviews and following best practices for secure, scalable development
- Maintaining release processes and software configuration management
- Collaborating with business analysts, testers, and cross-functional teams

**What You'll Bring**

Essential:
- Proficiency in Delphi (Object Pascal) for desktop application development
- Strong knowledge of .NET Framework / .NET Core (C# or VB.NET)
- Experience with ASP.NET MVC, Web API, and RESTful services
- Solid understanding of OOP principles and design patterns (MVC, MVVM)
- Database design and SQL scripting skills (SQL Server, InterBase, Firebird)
- Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN)
- Knowledge of integration techniques between Delphi and .NET applications
- Ability to obtain and maintain NV1 security clearance
- Australian citizenship

Desirable:
- Previous experience working with Services Australia, Centrelink, or the Department of Human Services
- Application support experience in a government environment

**Why This Role?**

This is an opportunity to work on a platform that directly impacts millions of Australians. You'll be part of a team modernising critical government systems — bridging legacy Delphi applications with modern .NET architecture. The 12-month contract has extension potential, and the hybrid working arrangement offers flexibility from Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, or Brisbane.
