About the Department
The department uses a range of sophisticated technologies and approaches including, research, shared international resources and intelligence, to help prevent the introduction and spread of disease.
Surveillance and monitoring of risk areas is also critical along with border control activities, which focus on assessing and managing potential biosecurity threats at Australia’s airports, seaports, and international mail centres.
Today, biosecurity controls at Australia’s borders minimise the risk of exotic pests and diseases entering Australia and protect our $32 billion agriculture export industries as well as our unique environment, native flora and fauna, our tourism industries and lifestyle.

Whats the gig ?
The Department is looking for a skilled contractor on a high performing data warehousing team for biosecurity analytics and workload measurement.
The Microsoft SQL data warehouse modeller will provide services under direction including:
a) developing data models to meet specified business requirements that will allow future integration with other reporting products
b) develop SQL scripts to curate transactional datasets, and
c) follow good programming practices and team programming conventions.

Essential criteria
- Technical excellence, specifically in dimensional modelling for SQL data warehousing
- Ability to work well with others
Desirable criteria
- SQL Server Analysis Services: Tabular modelling, DAX
- Programming languages/automation: Python, R
- Support ad hoc analytical and programming tasks as required
